The 2010 Sir Bob Charles Scholarship Awards

Applications for the 2010 Sir Bob Charles Scholarships are now open.  Applications close on the 31st of December and the 2010 recipients will be announced at The Golf Awards in Queenstwon during the New Zealand Open..

EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR YOUNG GOLFERS STRIVING TO SUCCEED

Sir Bob Charles is a legendary figure in New Zealand golf being the first of only two “major” winners from these shores. His exploits at the highest level of professional golf have placed him as one of this country's greatest achievers in sport.

Sir Bob's support of New Zealand golf has also been enduring, and since 1986 when he first began his career on the US Senior PGA Tour, he has been donating 1% of his prize money to New Zealand Golf.

New Zealand Golf elected to develop the Sir Bob Charles Golf Scholarship, using the monies contributed by Sir Bob, and is proud to be associated with what is an excellent opportunity for young people involved in golf who wish to develop their education.

Sir Bob, recognising that not everyone succeeds at the highest level, wants to provide the opportunity for golfers to gain an ongoing education whilst developing their golfing skills.

The Sir Bob Charles Golf Scholarships provide a chance for individuals in the golf industry to pursue their specific golf educational goals. Although there is no upper age limit on applicants, the scholarship is designed to provide assistance to people starting out or in the early stages of their education or career.

This is available to male or female amateur golfers who wish to become top golfers, but at the same time enable them to continue with some form of education. The scholarship is designed to assist with the costs of this education.  Scholarship funds under this category cannot be applied to assist with professional coaching or tournament costs.

(Please note that the scholarship differs from previous years, the scholarship is intended for young golfers pursuing tertiary education only, and the previous categories of Trainee Professionals and Trainee Greens Superintendants are no longer applicable)
